Privacy policy

1. Who we are

NotePebble is made by Shivara Studios ("we", "us"). We are responsible for the information described in this policy. You can reach us at support@notepebble.com.

This policy covers the NotePebble app for Windows, the website notepebble.com, and licence purchases and support.

2. Summary

Your notes, settings and backups stay on your own PC. We never receive them and cannot see, read or recover them.
The app contains no analytics, advertising, crash reporting or tracking of any kind.
The app goes online only to check your licence key with our licence provider, Lemon Squeezy.
When you buy, Lemon Squeezy processes your payment. We receive your name, email and order details, never your full card number.
We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we never use it for advertising.

3. Your notes and the app

Everything you write in NotePebble (notes, titles, colours, checklists), your settings (name, avatar, theme, preferences) and your backups are saved only in your Windows user folder on your own computer. NotePebble has no cloud sync, no servers that store notes, and no account. Nothing you type is ever sent to us or to anyone else.

The name and avatar you choose in the welcome tour are used only to show a greeting inside the app, and are stored only on your PC.

4. Information stored on your PC

To work, NotePebble stores these files on your computer only:

your notes and settings, in the app's data folder (shown in Settings → Your data)
up to 10 days of automatic backups, in a backups folder next to them
a small licence record, so your free trial and your activation are remembered on this PC. It contains no notes and no personal information beyond your licence key.

You can export or delete your notes at any time from inside the app.

5. Licence activation and checks

When you activate a licence key, NotePebble sends the following to Lemon Squeezy's licence service over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection:

your licence key
your computer's name (for example "DESKTOP-4F2A"), so you can recognise the activation in your order history

Lemon Squeezy returns an activation ID, plus the name and email on the order, which are shown in Settings → Licence.

From time to time, NotePebble checks that your key is still valid, sending only the licence key and the activation ID. When you click Deactivate, it sends the same two values to free the key. As with any internet connection, Lemon Squeezy can see your IP address when these checks happen.

Nothing else leaves your computer: no notes, no file names, no usage data, no hardware details.

6. Buying a licence

Licences are sold through Lemon Squeezy (Lemon Squeezy, LLC), which acts as the merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy collects your name, email address, billing address or country, payment details and IP address to take the payment, prevent fraud, calculate tax, send your receipt and licence key, and handle refunds. Their use of this information is covered by the Lemon Squeezy privacy policy.

We receive your name, email address, country, the product you bought, the price, your licence key and its activations. We use them only to provide and support your licence, process refunds, prevent misuse of keys and meet our tax and accounting duties. We never receive your full card number.

7. Microsoft Store

NotePebble is downloaded and updated through the Microsoft Store. Microsoft processes information about your download and device under the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Microsoft may share general download and install statistics with us, such as counts by country or Windows version. These do not identify you.

8. This website

Google Analytics: notepebble.com uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit, which pages they read and which buttons they click (for example Download or Buy). Google Analytics uses cookies and receives your IP address, browser and device type, and approximate location. We use this only in aggregate to improve the website. We do not use it for advertising, and the NotePebble app itself sends nothing to Google. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser. No advertising: the website has no advertising or tracking pixels.
Hosting: our web host keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser type, page requested and time) for security and to keep the site running. These logs are kept for a short time and are not used to identify you.
Fonts: the site loads fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when a page loads. See the Google privacy policy.
Checkout: the buy buttons load Lemon Squeezy's checkout, which may set cookies that are needed for the payment to work.
Links: links to the Microsoft Store or other sites are covered by those sites' own policies.

9. Support emails

If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply and help you. We don't add you to any mailing list. We never send newsletters or marketing unless you clearly ask for them.

10. Why we may use information

Where data protection law (such as the GDPR or UK GDPR) applies, we rely on these legal bases:

Contract: to deliver, activate and support the licence you bought.
Legal obligation: to keep order records for tax and accounting.
Legitimate interests: to prevent licence misuse and fraud, keep the website secure, and answer your messages.

We share information only with the services needed to run NotePebble: Lemon Squeezy (payments and licences), Google Analytics (website visit statistics), our email provider (support emails) and our web host (website). We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of others. We never sell personal information.

12. International transfers

Lemon Squeezy and some of our providers process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, these transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

13. How long we keep it

Order and licence records: for as long as your licence exists, and afterwards for as long as tax and accounting law requires (usually up to 8 years).
Support emails: until your question is resolved, then deleted within 2 years.
Website server logs: a short period set by our host, usually no more than 30 days.
Google Analytics website statistics: 14 months, then deleted automatically.
Data on your PC: until you delete it. We have no copy.

14. Security

All licence checks and checkout pages use encrypted HTTPS connections. Licence keys are long, random and cannot be guessed. Because your notes never leave your PC, their safety also depends on your own device. We recommend a Windows password and regular exports of anything important.

15. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act or India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act), you may have the right to:

ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy
ask us to correct or delete it
object to or restrict how we use it
withdraw consent where we rely on it
complain to your local data protection authority

To use these rights, email support@notepebble.com from the address you used to buy. We reply within 30 days. We may need to keep some order records for legal reasons, and we will tell you if so. We will never treat you differently for using your rights.

16. Children

NotePebble is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Purchases must be made by an adult or with a parent's permission. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

17. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, for example if the app starts sending new information, we'll say so clearly in the app's release notes before it applies.
